The Starla from Paul Reed Smith is a solid-body electric with retro vibe similar to the double cutaway Mira model introduced at Experience PRS 2007 but with a single cutaway and vintage-themed appointments. It's apparently the first PRS solid-body electric to feature a standard Bigsby B5 tail piece and a Grover Tune-O-Matic bridge. The guitar also includes exclusive double-screw Starla Treble and Bass pickups. The solid mahogany Starla body is accented with a 24" scale rosewood fingerboard, a solid mahogany neck and dot inlays or optional bird inlays. Proprietary Alnico magnets incorporated into the pickup design contribute to the guitar's unique clean and crisp sound but are also capable of rich harmonic overtones when driven. Other features include a uniquely shaped black plastic pick guard, tone and volume pots and a three-way pickup selector. Color options include Vintage Cherry, Vintage Mahogany, Vintage Orange and Black. More

Ovation's iDea is apparently the first and only guitar of its kind to feature a built-in MP3 recorder/player that's part of the on-board Ovation preamp. The iDea can record from the guitar alone, simultaneously from the guitar and built-in microphone, and from an auxiliary input. Any audio signal fed into the auxiliary input is converted into an MP3 file and stored in the iDea memory. More

While it's nothing more than a gimmicky digital pocket recorder, Line 6 are touting the BackTrack as a "magic" device that "captures everything you play without ever hitting record" ... coz it's "always on" and "begins recording as soon as it detects a signal". It comes with 1GB flash memory for "12 hours" of WAV audio and has a USB port that "also recharges the internal battery to its full capacity of over 8 hours". Street price hovers at around $150, but for about 50 bucks more, you can score the better spec'd and far more useful and versatile Zoom H2. More
